Junk Removal Boise Idaho

Who doesn’t love a “fun fact”? The world of junk is no different. While there are many statistics available about why you should consider recycling, reusing, or reducing, we thought it may make this a little more enjoyable to find a few things that you didn’t know! So, here we go!

JUNK FACT #1 – More than half of the US Mail is Junk Mail!

That’s right…it’s not just your mailbox that’s inundated with flyers, coupons, invitations, etc. It’s everybody’s mail box. According to the US Postal Service, American businesses spent nearly $180 billion in 2013 advertising their goods and services through the mail! That’s a lot of money! Don’t make things worse by dumping that unwanted paper into our landfill. Setup an easy recycle bin that will make it easy to sort through what you want and what you don’t want to keep.

JUNK FACT #2 – About 95% of old clothes can be reutilized!

Only 5% of the clothes we toss must be thrown away. The rest can be reused or repurposed in other ways. The 5% that must go?? Those are the clothes that are moldy or are contaminated and no longer useable due to health reasons. Think about that the next time you’re cleaning out your closet. As a matter of fact, according to the Secondary Materials and Recycled Textiles Association, or SMART, about 45% of our discarded clothing is re-used as apparel! Meaning it’s still good enough to be worn. Here’s a great resource that gives more information on recycled clothing.

JUNK FACT #3 – There’s money in “Junk”!

The stuff we no longer want can bring big money if the right person wants it. According to a 2017 article from Dun & Bradstreet, the used merchandise industry has an annual revenue of roughly $17 billion. That’s $17 billion from stuff we didn’t want! Let that sink in for a minute 🙂
